Just Start

For as long as I can remember, I have been so afraid of what everybody has to say about me. My best friend had to remind me that if you love something, you just do it! It doesn’t matter if I will get paid to write or to create art – I have to do it.

It’s quite funny how I always used to say “Ugh, I’m so jealous of these people who ALWAYS knew who they wanted to be,” but if I really think about it, I always knew who I wanted to be as well.

I have been drawing since elementary school. Yes, I know we all drew in elementary school, but I had a passion for it from the very beginning. Not only drawing, but writing as well.

My parents used to laugh and say that when I wrote summaries in school, they were longer than the book itself. I could just go on and on about a topic. Of course, in college I had to unlearn that. Most people would say “10 pages? How will I write that much?!” Meanwhile I would say “10 pages? How will I fit everything I want to say in 10 pages?!”

Art was also always lingering at my fingertips. I loved music, dancing, singing, drawing, sculpting – EVERYTHING. Whatever I could get my hands on, I would. Throughout the years my focus shifted. First, it was, of course, crayons and pens (super fun). In middle school, it shifted to digital drawing on GIMP. I was obsessed with the virtual reality game IMVU, and I edited peoples avatars for fun. It might be fun to share those images with you all! In high school, I found my true love – painting.

Actually, funny story – I hated painting when I first officially tried it. Everyone was so much better than me! My first sunset painting looked like someone smeared feces over my paper. Needless to say (I’ll tell you anyway), the colors did not blend very well. Eventually, though, I did get the hang of it, and my very first “successful” paintings are hanging on the wall in my parents house ’til this day!

Here we are today – and I am deciding to follow my dreams. Maybe I will have a career out of it, maybe I won’t. Either way, I know this is what I have to do. This is my purpose.
