Timing

I leaned my head back,

I looked at your lips.

Unsure what I want –

Perhaps just a kiss?

Maybe your eyes

Were telling the truth

That way deep inside,

You wanted it, too.

Despite, there we stayed

With nothing to say

An empty I can’t,

But thinking Please Stay.

If only we knew

What life had in store,

Then maybe we’d lean

Just a little bit more.

I reached out my hand,

But it was too late.

This wasn’t a night out

It wasn’t a date.

Perhaps it was timing

That wasn’t our friend.

Perhaps it was that distance

That forced our end.
